Series: Rise & Shine | Acceptance

Rise & Shine Confession: I will accept what is instead of resenting what isn’t.

Dear Aspen reader,

Acceptance can be a difficult habit to foster. Acceptance of self, acceptance of love, or even the acceptance of circumstances that you weren’t prepared to be in, can all affect our ability to be resilient and press on in this adventure of life. Today, I encourage you to begin accepting the circumstances that surround you instead of resenting what’s missing, what you don’t have or what you are not.

As I’ve offered in the past, focusing on the bad only breeds feelings of negativity and dissatisfaction. There are enough miserable people and terrible situations in the world, so let’s not allow ourselves to dwell amongst that kind of negativity. Because we’ve only got one life to live, why not choose to live it in a way that is pleasing and satisfying?

When it comes to resentment of what’s gone, I’m the first to admit that I’ve been there. I’ve allowed myself to dwell in the place where loss meets pain and quickly turns into hopelessness. It’s a fast spiral and one of which that I now try to steer clear. I’m sure that you’ve also felt the pain of change and can attest to the fact that allowing yourself to be discontent and dissatisfied is not nearly as fulfilling as embracing the new and starting fresh. Whether you currently find yourself in a state of bitterness, coming out of that arena or on the brink of exploring new territory -know that you’re on the right path. Stay focused on the positive that surrounds you, know that you are an overcomer and believe that there is good just around the corner. Don’t lose hope.

In health,

Alecia
