Series: Rise & Shine | Living

Rise & Shine confession: I will recognize that just to be alive is a gift.

Dear Aspen reader,

We’ve all heard the stories of near death encounters and maybe even a few retellings of those who’ve died and come back to tell about their experiences. One commonality in many of the stories I’ve heard is that they gain a new perspective. When facing death closely, no matter if it’s a condition within yourself, watching the decline of a family member or feeling the loss of a close friend, it’s apparent that facing the reality of leaving this life behind, changes things. Most often, a new lease on this current life arises and we come away with a semper fi attitude.

Today I encourage you, whether you’ve faced loss head on or not, to seize the day and realize that each day is a gift. Recognize that being alive is a gift. It’s like the old saying goes “at least we have our health.” My hope is that you have a lot more than that, but be thankful if your health is truly the only sustaining factor in your life. Choose to believe that your life is a gift worth living and giving to others. Don’t be so bogged down with the tasks of day to day, the stressors of this world, or the hardships encountered that you forget the blessing of simply living. Know that your life is truly meaningful and be grateful for each piece of who you are. Stay encouraged today that there is good in each moment and that your life is good, no matter the current circumstances. Recognize that being alive is a truly special gift.

In health,

Alecia
