Make Life About Giving.

Dear Aspen reader,

Raise your hand if you are guilty of hoping for more support at the office, desiring a promotion to your dream job, or having more money to take your family on a vacation. I’ve definitely found myself stuck in the “wanting”, “getting” and “having” mindset. It seems so easy to fall into this trap because most of the desires come with a reasonable justification. (“It will be a great experience for my family”, “I worked so hard for this, “My life would be so much easier.” etc)

Now, I’m not here to highlight a selfish nature that can rear its ugly head, at times, but let me offer a different perspective:

There is nothing incorrect about wanting the best opportunities, provision or stability for yourself and those you love. Often times, these are the precious moments that we spend our lives celebrating. But, I want to suggest that being the best version of yourself and giving to others can offer much more fulfillment than “getting” ever could.

A few suggestions for being your best self and offering it to the world:

1. Be present: Instead of reaching, striving and constantly doing, work to create uninterrupted time for your family during this season. Take every opportunity to listen, learn and grow together.
2. Write a letter: Reach out to a long lost friend with an old-fashioned, handwritten letter. Open up the dialogue that may be long overdue and worth the cost of the stamp.
3. Meet a friend for coffee: Catch up over a few warm drinks with the sole intention of encouraging, uplifting and being inquisitive about the companion with whom you are meeting. Make the meet-up about him or her and freely pour encouragement into the conversation.

Instead of looking for the next opportunity to get what you need, make your life about other people and being the truest version of yourself. What do you have to lose? Happy Holidays from Aspen Wellness!

In health,
Alecia
