Willing to grow.

Change, growth, flexibility, adaptability, and resilience.  When it comes to change and growth are you a willing participant in the deviations that your life seems to bring or do you fight, kick and scream – striving for stability and order with all the strength you can muster?

I would argue that most of us crave steadiness which often seems contradictory to the inconsistency that change seems to offer. But the difficulty is that change and growth are unavoidable and must be met with an adaptable attitude in order to keep moving forward. Often times we are left without the choice as to whether or not we will adapt.

The good news: Maintaining order while allowing yourself to be adaptable is possible!

Maybe you’ve heard of resilience? Maybe not? Resilience can be defined as the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress.

In order to develop resilience in the face of change let me offer these steps:

  1. Keep an open mind. Change is inevitable so begin by brainstorming all the potential scenarios, next steps and potential outcomes based on the current circumstances.

  2. Create a plan. Create a reasonable set of steps that will allow you to grow through the situation instead of avoiding it all together. Take into account the time that it will take to adjust to the changes and be gracious with yourself.

  3. Execute. Find a core group of people to come along side of you and help you to walk out the plan with patience and constancy. Everyone needs a cheerleader!

Don’t shy away from change and growth. Be willing to adapt and you’ll be amazed at how you flourish.

In health,
Alecia
