Rise & Shine confession: I will not postpone joy.

Dear Aspen reader,

Postponing joy. What does that phrase mean to you? It might signify that you put others before yourself, assuring that circumstances enhance joy for them before your own emotional well-being. Or maybe you decided to postpone joy because you’re in a season of life that’s “all work” and “no play”. You think, “there is no time for joy in my schedule, but maybe later.”

Whatever your interpretation of postponing joy, I want you to step back and ask the question:

“Do I believe that I’m worthy of having joy in my life?”

Most assuredly, the answer is yes! Although we each have different reasons for believing that joy may or may not need to be a part of our regular lives, I want to argue that maintaining a healthy level of joy is crucial to making it through every day life! Without joy we are unable to enjoy the blessings of each day. When we become disinterested and push away enjoyment, we start to lose hope. Upon losing hope in our minds, the vitality of our bodies is sure to follow suit. Vow to keep yourself healthy and well in your body by creating instances of joy.

Consider these:

  • Force yourself to laugh - even in the tough times.

  • Find opportunities to encourage joy within a group.

  • Make a list of activities that bring you joy and go do them!

  • Ask someone else how you might bring joy to his or her life.

There is always time for joy. Believe that it’s your right to be joyful and don’t postpone it until “someday”. Cultivating a lifestyle that breeds joy is so important because the health of your mind, body and soul truly depend on it!

In health,

Alecia
