Do What You Can.

Dear Aspen reader,

We live in a world where preparation is key to success in all areas of life. In order to excel in a career we need the best training, whether that is college or on the job. To be a success as a parent we believe that classes, books and podcasts offer the best chances to prepare for what may come. And to learn the ways of wellness it always helps to scour Pinterest, the internet or books for the latest and greatest healthy recipes/fitness routines/wellness regimens.

All of these preparations are great and there is definite worth to investing time into prepping for something in which you’re passionate about. The problem lies in the place where dreams and preparation take the front seat and action is shoved into the trunk. I think it’s easy to get distracted thinking that we always need more before we can take the next step, whether it’s financially, time-related, a lack of education or opportunity. But there is always something to be done right where you are with exactly the skill set that you possess at this current time.

A few scenarios to consider:

  • If you’re thinking about starting a business, start where you’re at. Brainstorm a plan, journal your ideas and start sharing the vision with likeminded people.

  • If you’re considering a career change or heading back to school then start exploring. Search out some ideas related to your passions and interests. Reach out to schools and start looking into criteria for application.

  • If you’re interested in non-profit work but don’t feel that there is any opportunity in your neighborhood with which you mesh, think again! Start offering your time and services at a local food pantry, thrift store, church or community center. You’ll be amazed at what connections come from this and what you’ll learn about yourself.

This week, start exploring some options and doing what you can, right where you are, with what you have in your hands right now. Whether it’s big or small, a lot or a little - you have something to give. Go, do it!

In health,

Alecia
