Impact vs. income

Dear Aspen reader,

In life, certain situations and specific people influence each of us in unique ways. Sometimes our experiences can positively impact healthy living but do you often find yourself struggling to stay well? When you stop and think about it, what has affected your lifestyle and the level of wellness that you consistently maintain?

Here are a few ways to ensure that your life is being impacted positively:

1. Find a friend. Often the relationships that we keep affect our lifestyle choices in food and fitness. Find a friend who shares a similar goal and work to influence each other and encourage accountability.

2. Social media reset. I have the tendency to compare myself to other wellness professionals via social media which only breeds thoughts of "not enough", "should" or "more, more, more". Be sure that social media is impacting you for good by taking an inventory of what you view. Also try scheduling a time slot for social media browsing during your day. Set a timer and when the time is up, move on to your next task!

3. Re-organize your pantry. What? Yes. If you find that your dinner menus are persuaded by the prepackaged, boxed, or frozen meals that you've (somehow) accumulated from the grocery store, do your best to push them to the back of the cupboard so you can feature canned vegetables, whole grain products, natural nut butters, and low sodium pasta sauces. Over time you can whittle away at those "not so healthy" meals but also work to make better choices in food.

Before I go, I have one last question. What impact does YOUR LIFE have on those around you? Maybe you feel forced to spend your days earning an income just to get by, but don't neglect the impact that you can have on co-workers, family members or others you encounter as you go through the daily grind. Please don't be too distracted with the tasks at hand that you ignore the value of your life on others. Consider making a small impact wherever you can. Don't wait for "someday" to start reaching out.

In health,

Alecia
