Take it to the Limits
Dear Aspen reader,
Are you familiar with this old Eagle’s song?
You know I've always been a dreamer
Spent my life runnin' 'roundAnd it's so hard to change
Can't seem to settle down
But the dreams I've seen lately keep on turning out
And burning out and turning out the sameSo put me on a highway and show me a sign
And take it to the limit one more time
Every time I hear this song it brings me back to math class during my junior year of high school. After reading about a study stating that the playing of soft music during tests and quizzes would boost thinking and tests scores, it sounded through our classroom every Friday.
If you really break down the lyrics of the song you can see that they are all about dreaming and pushing the limits. Do you live your life in this manner or are you one to walk on the safe side choosing, rather, to remain comfortable? Don’t get me wrong. Feeling comfort isn’t all bad, but it can be if it leads to complacency and it forces you to put limits on your abilities, hopes and dreams.
There will always be realistic reasons for remaining where we are in life. Maybe you believe the notion that your ideas aren’t worth sharing. Or that the plans you’ve got in your mind would take too much work or financial investment. When it comes to eating healthy foods and moving your body, do you feel that you limit yourself? What are the reasons that cause you to place barriers around your desires?
I want to invite you to picture yourself in a fast car, speeding down an open highway - the wind blowing in your hair, with no care in the world. Try to envision the freedom and anticipation you might feel. Know and trust that the guard rails are there for safety but not to place limitations on your enjoyment. You get to choose whether you go right or left at the next turn. You decide on the speed. You even get to decide on whether or not you would like the car top up or down! The options are limitless and the railings are there to allow you to safely navigate within their boundaries but the freedom to decide is all yours.
Drive safely and with certainty, this week, knowing that the possibilities are limitless when you set your mind to them.
In health,
