Improve Your World

Dear Aspen reader,

Whether you view yourself as an activist or a person who tries to stay away from social causes, we all have a part to play in changing our world. If we didn’t have a responsibility in shaping it then what’s the point of living? I truly believe that we were made to build relationships, to grow and to have an impact for the better. Do you?

Now, don’t get yourself overwhelmed with the concept of changing the world because sometimes that can sound lofty and unattainable. But what if I challenged you to improve YOUR world? I’m sure if you look around and take an inventory on your lifestyle there are a few pieces that you might be able to improve.

Do you need to focus on better eating habits? Or is moving your body on a consistent basis more of your challenge? When it comes to your mental wellness do your thoughts line up with positive actions? What can you do to make a change for the better in your own circle?

Awhile back, I found myself frustrated with the Army post grocery store selection when it came to fresh fruits and vegetables, so I made a choice to improve our eating habits and began volunteering at a local, community garden in our neighborhood. This offered me the chance to serve the community and gather fresher vegetables including a variety of local goodies that weren’t included in the commissary selection. While seeking to improve our world, I helped to improve the local garden with my weeding and watering skills.

So, I ask you, how can you improve your world when it comes to better wellness habits? It doesn’t have to be a large task, just start with what your need is and see how you can make a shift to improve your circle. And if it spills over into the larger world around you, even better!

In health,
