Silence No More.
Dear Aspen reader,
Speaking up can be a difficult task to take on. Sometimes it feels that staying silent, going with the flow, or pushing concerns under the rug is the easy way out. While this action can feel comfortable and alleviate some pressure for a while, I’ve learned that it’s often best to move full force taking a more direct approach when there is a concern or issue at hand.
Even if you aren’t the type to be motivated or moved by a social injustice, take an inventory of the situations around you that are less than satisfying. What matters to you most surely matters to someone else out there.
Consider:
Is there something in your work environment that could be improved upon and should be brought to attention of the management?
In your marriage or close friendships, do you sense friction around a particular issue and wish to improve it?
Maybe you’re facing a health issue that you’ve been avoiding and it would give you peace of mind to bring it to light?
Does an issue like poverty, hunger or homelessness tug at your heart strings? It might be time to volunteer at a soup kitchen.
Or maybe there is even a healthier food in the grocery store that you’d like to see offered and it’s time to make it known.
Today I urge you to look around you, rise up and be the agent of change in a particular situation, rather than shying away and letting someone else take initiative. It might feel uncomfortable at first, but you have everything to gain by striving for wholeness in your circles of influence. Be brave and seek change for the things that truly matter to yourself and others.
In health,
Alecia
